At Purpose to Profit, we guide and support organisations to become preferred employers for the right employees, to retain and engage employees more highly through significantly enhancing the meaning of their work, and to create a culture that supports performance and makes delivering increased turnover and profits easier.

To understand for yourself just how powerful a business purpose and the meaning it brings can be, ask yourself how motivated to work hard you would be if the reason for your hard work was to put money into someone else’s pocket?  Now ask yourself how engaged you would be if you were truly making a difference in some way simply by turning up to work every day and doing your job as well as you could. 

Now you have the difference, perhaps you can understand why staff are not generally excited by a Vision that focuses on a turnover and profit figure.  And perhaps you can understand why, in such an environment, they would be asking “what’s in it for me?”

When we talk about purpose to clients, the typical response is along the lines of “But we have to make money.  We have a responsibility to our shareholders”   We agree that businesses need to make money - they wouldn’t remain viable for long if they didn’t.  What we’re saying is that focussing on the money is a de-motivator.  Focus on the contribution your organisation can make, and focus on the services it will deliver to its customers and the money will follow.

How does Purpose to Profit increase meaning at work?

Purpose to Profit, under the direction of Suzanne Mercier, offers products and services that will help your organisation bring more meaning into the work environment.   Working with Purpose to Profit, you will see an increase in employee attraction, retention and engagement, morale, customer service, customer satisfaction, loyalty and profit in your company. 

We work at 3 levels in the organisation: 

  • The Organization as a Whole -- What is your organization's Purpose? Why does your organization exist?  What is the contribution your organization makes or can make to society, aside from the financial gains stakeholders accumulate?  What is your company's reputation in the marketplace? What is your corporate brand and how does it resonate with customers? What is your company's vision? At this level, the purpose guides the contribution that the company makes to society, aside from the financial gains stakeholders accumulate. 

  •  The Leaders and Managers – What is the approach and style, of the leadership within the company?  Are your managers true leaders?  At this level, purpose influences the leadership's emotional intelligence, understanding of performance management, vision and the ability to inspire. Managers need to realize that they have to be successful catalysts for people potential.  

  • Individuals –Do all of your employees understand their importance?  Does every employee take his or her contribution to your business seriously?  This level of purpose is concerned with individuals looking for meaning in their day-to-day work, and to accepting the invitation to engage.  When they do, they are more likely to be productive and perform to their own unique potential.
